About the Artist: Sharon Worley

I am a self taught artist. I studied studio art at Ohio State University and Columbus School of Art and Design. I have a Master's degree in Art History from Tufts University and I am completing a Ph.D. in Aesthetics at the University of Texas, Dallas. I am the former curator of the Cape Ann Historical Museum in Gloucester, MA. My paintings are naive and primitive interpretations of light and nature. I teach and exhibit in Houston, Texas at local colleges and galleries. Recent exhibitions include faculty shows at Wharton County Junior College October 2004; North Harris College December - January 2005; North Harris Performing Arts Center "Synergy" February 2005.

Here I sell my "Outsider Student Art" at rates consistent with the nation's rent. My art reveals the beauty of nature with a whimsical look at the economic dilemma facing students seeking to purchase a piece of earth with a piece of history. I believe that the gap between education and employment is far greater than it should be, and is largely due to artificial class barriers which are learned through history and media. If you look closely at my works you will see pencils and other school supplies, media which resemble crayon, chalk and animation, the constant allure of nature and socialization and the necessities one needs for self-support. Here the nation is represented as nature which must be cultivated by the enlivened intellect. Each new crop of students stimulates the economy through their buying muscle, or threatens of collapse of this sensitive ecosystem through prejudice and mismanagement represented by an erosion of the economic resources which supply training without a practical application or return on the investment. My paintings are original and offer the investor insurance against depreciation of assets if they are well tended.

Photography by Humble Camera (Gloucester images are lighter than they appear)
